Going downstairs for an “escape”
We were incredibly fortunate to find a new build back in 2017 located in an older, more established part of the metro. It checked all the boxes. Perhaps the most interesting feature was the spacious wet bar in the basement. We knew we had to take advantage.
“Best bar in Roeland Park.”
Our love of cocktails started to grow while on our honeymoon in Amsterdam. We visited a craft cocktail bar and were wowed by the flavors and presentation of the drinks. This was also around the time that Manifesto (a now closed speakeasy in Crossroads KC) was at its peak. Though Manifesto closed a few years back, we visited enough to develop more appreciation for interesting cocktails and did everything we could to bring the experience home.
The Scout is born
What started as something “neat” in our basement has turned into a bit of an obsession. Nearly every time we’d have a good cocktail out and about, we’d think about how to re-create the same thing at home. We’d ask questions; Why is their ice clear? How do you get that signature frothiness in a Clover Club? How do you make syrups? What are tinctures?
Our general philosophy is that if we find something we like to consume, we should figure out how to do it ourselves. With that, The Scout was born. The name is an ohmage to the “Kansas City Scout” statue that overlooks downtown as well as Kansas City’s former NHL hockey team.
