Brunch is one of our favorite meals. We are always on the lookout for the best brunch spots when traveling.
But, we also have some great brunch options back at home in Kansas City to keep us full and happy even when we aren’t traveling. Whether you are looking for fast casual or a relaxing brunch experience, Kansas City has got you covered.

Mildred’s - Best for Causal Brunch
With multiple locations in KCMO, Mildred’s has become one of the most popular brunch options for weekend errands and lunch breaks. You’ll find good coffee, baked goods and an atmosphere conducive to hanging out, people watching or getting work done.
What to Order
The Standard Sandwich. It’s called standard for a reason. With steamed eggs, bacon, swiss and djion mayo on your choice of bread it checks all the boxes.
Biscuits & Gravy. A personal favorite of mine, Mildred’s does their biscuits and gravy well. The biscuits are perfectly golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside with a savory, sausage gravy.
The Vibe
Mildred’s is a casual spot that is perfect to meet up with friends or hunker down for a work sesh. It’s bright and has feel good vibes.
What to Know
This place gets busy, but don’t be deterred by the line and full tables. It moves quickly and tables open up. With locations in the Crossroads, South Plaza and 39th Street there’s probably not one too far away to fulfill your morning breakfast needs.
McClain’s - Best for a Quick Bite & Baked Goods
Another popular breakfast and brunch destination with multiple locations, McClain’s is a great casual spot to grab a breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich or delicious baked goods.
What to Order
The Plain and Simple Sandwich. It’s called standard for a reason. Eggs, bacon and cheddar on English muffin toast. Simple and delicious.
Pepperjack Burrito. If you like breakfast burritos and spice, get this burrito. It’s full of eggs, sausage, potatoes and a spicy serrano sauce that is to die for.
Baked Goods. Obviously. You really can’t go wrong with any here. We love their donuts, cookies and mini cheesecakes.
The Vibe
McClain’s is another casual spot for a quick breakfast. It’s got plenty of seating and is just a chill spot for a low-key breakfast.
What to Know
Like Mildred’s this spot gets crowded especially on a weekend morning, but we’ve never had issues finding a seat and the service is fast. They’ve also have multiple locations across the city including Waldo, Shawnee, Overland Park, North Kansas City, and Stanley.
Fox & Pearl - Best for an Intimate Brunch
Arguably our favorite brunch destination in the city. What started out as small butcher with a limited menu in Lawrence, KS has become a go-to elevated dining experience.
If you are a biscuits and gravy fan, make sure to order their B&G. It’s one of our favorites.
What to Order
Biscuits and Gravy. If you are a biscuits and gravy lover, order it. It’s my favorite biscuits and gravy in the city and possibly ever. Full stop. With their start as a small butcher, they do their meat right and the sausage in the gravy is no exception.
Steak & Egg. Want to splurge? Get the steak and eggs. It’s served with a parsley salsa, cottage fries and fried egg. What’s not to love.
The Vibe
Dark, intimate and romantic. It’s a great place for a nice date night as well. The tables are cozy and the place is full of character. They also have a small patio.
What to Know
They only serve brunch on Sundays, so plan accordingly or hit them up for their rotating menu for dinner. They do take reservations, which we usually book. However, it doesn’t get nearly as busy for brunch as it does for dinner. I think the brunch is still somewhat of a hidden gem.
French Market - Best for a Cozy Brunch & Desserts
French Market is located a bit further out from the city, but if you happen to be near Prairie Village this spot is worth the trip. This spot serves up delicious crepes, quiche and sandwiches. They also have a small market with a selection of grab and go options and wide assortment of cheeses.
What to Order
The Breakfast Crepe. Filled with egg, cheddar and your choice of bacon or sausage topped with a delicious dijonaise this isn’t your typical crepe. Come hungry because it is quite large.
Quiche Lorraine. A delightful quiche of ham, bacon, onion and gruyere. It’s fluffy, savory and mouthwatering.
Breakfast Potatoes. These are divine. Crispy potatoes served with a yummy dill aioli. Just order them.
The Vibe
French Market is quaint and it truly feels like the name, a French Market. The tables are close together and you can just feel the positive energy. They’ve got some nice outdoor seating as well. It’s definitely a local spot filled with families from the surrounding neighborhoods.
What to Know
Another spot that gets super busy. Yet again, the line moves quickly and service is fast. We’ve never had any issues even on a busy Saturday morning. It’s closed on Sundays and you’d be remiss not to check out their desserts. We love their Passionfruit layered cake, goat cheese cheesecake and cookies.
Hemma Hemma - Best for a Slow Morning Bite
The newest addition to our favorite brunch spots. We are sad we didn’t discover it sooner as it might beat out Fox & Pearl for our favorite brunch in the city. Located in Waldo, this spot has only been open for a few years.
What to Order
Waldo Bowl. Wow, this bowl is super unique. It has breakfast potatoes, square bits of egg souffle, peppers, onions, and smothered in a sausage gravy. The gravy might be one of the best gravies I’ve had, slightly spicy and just bursting with flavor.
Classic Burrito. This burritos is filled with breakfast potatoes, egg souffle, bacon, white cheddar and served with a side of spicy aioli. Delicious.
Masa Pancake Shortstack. We haven’t tried these yet, but they looked amazing on a nearby table. Love the spin on a traditional pancake using yellow masa, churro syrup and a cinnamon-sugar whipped butter.
The Vibe
We loved the vibe here. It has a cozy waiting area with couches, grab and go section and a place to order coffee and specialty drinks. The dining area is intimate without feeling stuffy and they’ve got some huge kitchen islands that serve as seating as well that was a cool vibe.
What to Know
This place is still a bit of a hidden gem. We had a short wait, but felt like it sound be somewhere where the wait is much longer. You can’t get reservations for brunch, but you can also visit for dinner where you can reserve a table. We haven’t gone for dinner yet, but will be checking it out in the near future!
Honorable Mentions
Succotash
Succotash is an unassuming hot spot to suit your brunch needs. It’s a casual spot, but it gets busy. Be prepared to wait for a table on a weekend. Known for their scrambles/hash, you’ll leave full and happy. They’ve also got some delicious juices that we enjoy.
Char Bar
This spot is actually a BBQ joint, but they offer a great brunch on the weekends as well. Their bloody marys are one of our favorites in the city and love their fried chicken and waffles.
